Ekaterina Shirkina

Senior Architect

Ekaterina is a licensed Senior Architect who joined Kettle Collective in 2015. Since then, she has contributed to a wide range of projects, varying in scale, typology, and cultural context. She has played major roles in developments spanning from small pavilions to large-scale masterplans. Her experience includes designing high-rise buildings, office spaces, conference centers, retail developments, and both small-scale and large-scale residential complexes across the world.

For Ekaterina, architecture is, first and foremost, about attentiveness to the environment. Whether engaging with nature or the existing urban fabric, she strives to develop solutions that respond to their context. Her keen attention to detail has been particularly useful in projects involving listed buildings, developments within National Parks, and other sensitive environments.

Some of the notable projects she has contributed to at Kettle Collective include Lakhta Phase 2, Abha Masterplan, Al Qatif Masterplan, Al Zahia Uptown, Tilal Al Ghaf Retail Hub, and the Hunter Global Leadership Centre.

Ekaterina joined Kettle Collective after graduating from the University of Edinburgh. During her studies, her work was featured in various exhibitions and competitions. She was also awarded the Somner Macdonald Architect Prize for Small Moves/Big Impacts for her graduate project, which focused on designing environments for elderly people. This experience in creating spaces for vulnerable groups allows her to design fluid and intuitive environments.

Additionally, her passion for sketching—developed during her studies as yet another way to express her admiration for the beauty of the world around her—has become a valuable tool for exploring design concepts and visualising projects.
