The Cutter

Inspired by the monster coal cutting machines once used deep underground, the Cutter building, is a place to learn about the history of Northumberland.

Alongside the original listed colliery buildings, the new facilities house Northumberland’s archival “treasures” as well as galleries for touring exhibitions.

The major heritage and tourism venue was designed to incorporate ground source heat pumps using ground water from the original coal mine and incorporating reclaimed stone and the main wall cladding.

The Cutter was designed whilst Tony Kettle was at RMJM.
